Play Room

Compliments of the original owners of our house, we have lived with this brick-red room for more than two years.  It is not that we have an aversion to red, but this room is not a big room and to paint it such a dark color made it feel like we were in a cave.  Plus we didn't have the paint to cover hole patches and things like that.  We have been wanting to change it for a long time, but as we have painted OVER 33 rooms in the last 7 years we were a little burned-out.  But we got a burst of energy over Memorial Day weekend and voila!

So, without further ado, here is the room before . . .

And, drum roll please . . . .

AFTER!

The room truly does "feel" a lot bigger, both wider and taller.  We put the wainscotting up to about 4 1/2 feet with the wide (1 foot) yellow-on-yellow stripes above to give the illusion of height.  The only drawback to the higher wainscotting is that we had to move the shelving vignette that was there previously; we moved it to the office and the pictures that were in the office into this room.  We chose light colors to help the room feel more airy and open and left the bottom white for the same reason.
I think in the top "after" picture where the picture is, that we will remove that picture and put up some vinyl lettering; if we do, I'll get those pictures up too.
Now, we can add a chair or two without feeling like the walls are caving in on us.
