Why Not?
Why not? Do you ever have a why not day? About once a month, or so, we have one. My kids don't know it, only me; and, they haven't even caught on yet. I just wake up one morning and the first time they ask me something to which I would usually reply, "No, not today," I, instead, say, "Sure, why not?" For example: I might be planning on making bagels for breakfast, but they want hash browns, "Sure, why not?", they ask for strawberry milk for breakfast, "Sure, why not?", they want to play with something really messy that I wouldn't really be in the mood to do, "Sure, why not?" Anything they ask for to which I don't have a legitimate reason to say, "NO!", I say, "Why not?" They haven't caught on and haven't "asked for the moon yet," But they might and we'll have to go from there. Now, if they asked "Can we run up and down the street with out any shoes on while being naked," that would still be a no. But, for all of those little things, like, "I'd really like the pink shirt, or the shirt without buttons, or to wear flip-flops to school," they get a "Sure, why not?" Just for one day I don't feel like I have to be "mean" all day long. Don't get me wrong, rules and guidelines are important and I don't think that adults should cater to children and their every want otherwise we'll just raise selfish, spoiled, self-centered, narcissistic children who grow up to be selfish, spoiled, self-centered, narcissistic adults. BUT, it is just nice, every once and a while to have a day of, "Why not?"
