Socrates Gets Baptized!

Last weekend as we were going into church, Socrates said, "I want to go int church with you two."  I told him that it wasn't very exciting and all he would be able to do was sit there and listen. . . . boy was I wrong!  Even so, he was fine with that.  As we entered I saw the baptismal on the floor.  "Oooohhh," I thought, "I forgot it was a baptism Sunday," (they only do it every 3 months at the church we attend), "I love baptism Sundays."  As soon as the pastor mentioned that people were going to get baptized, Socrates could hardly contain himself, "I'm going to do that  mom!"  After discussing with him why he wanted to do it and knew that we had been talking about it for several weeks, I told him, "We'll see, you have to wait anyway, they aren't doing it yet."  When they gave the call for those who wanted to get baptized to come down, Socrates exploded from his seat.  "Whoa  . . ." I said.  Shannon and I looked at one another Shannon said, "Doesn't he have to take a class or something?"  "There isn't a baptism class in the Bible, " I replied.  To which he said, "Okay, walk down there with him."  We were all the way in the back, top balcony.  As Socrates was taking off his shoes, I questioned him, "Tell me again why you want to get baptized?"  "God wants me to do it, Mom, and I want to please Him."  In essence, that is exactly why we get baptized.  Christ did it, and commanded us to do it . . . yes, it is an outward expression of an inward condition, the old self dies, the new self is born: a truly beautiful thing, but The Savior doesn't command us to understand theology before committing to him.  For Christ said to come tim Him as a child, that is exactly what Socrates did.  About two years ago, he accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior of his life and that He in fact is God with skin on, but had never been baptized.  Now, he is. . . . Praises to our Lord for this is why we celebrate today!

Christ is Risen, He is Risen in deed!

Happy Easter!
