A few weeks ago, we were all at dinner and Kelan said to me, "Mommy, when I die, and go to heaven, I am going to give God and Jesus a present." As the theology starts rolling around in my mind about how we are to come to God with nothing, that He accepts us as we are and that we are to accept HIS gift of Jesus' righteous covering over us and that there is nothing we can give Him and that everything is His, I stop and think: Kelan is just 4 he is not looking for correction or a theology lesson. So, I say, "That is so sweet, Kel, what would your present be?"
He simply replies, "My heart," and continues eating. What profoundness, and from such, "innocence". This little guy understands more about "God and Jesus" than most grown-ups do. I see such a beautiful picture of Kelan holding this little wrapped package with a BIG bow up above his head to God. And God, just smiling at him. I love it!
I better go get mine packaged and wrapped, I hope your are too!

amen! your pictures have been so beautiful, too- thanks for sharing
Karie,
What a great little story about Kelan. Thanks for taking the time to write it down. So that you don't think I'm a blog-stalker, my name is Gregg Lamm and I'm your mom and dad's pastor in Newberg at 2nd Street Community Church.
My three "men-sons" are now 25-22-20. And after some rough patches of road, all three of them are walking with Jesus. Two of them are really growing in their faith -- and one is just kind of "existing". What a good reason to keep praying for our kids -- bringing them to Jesus with expentant hearts.
Reading about Kelan's conversation with you was a good reminder of what can happen when PROVERBS 22:6 is lived out ...
PROVERBS 22:6
6 Teach your children to choose the right path, and when they are older, they will remain upon it.
(NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)
6 Point your kids in the right direction -- when they're old they won't be lost. (THE MESSAGE)
Godspeed to you and your husband as you raise your kids in a Jesus-House. Small steps. Big God.
