Have you read all or any of the Chronicles of Narnia? My father read them to me as a little girl. Right now we are listening to Focus on the Family's Radio Theater production of them in the car. They bring tears to my eyes as I hear them. C.S. Lewis has such a gift for putting Christian principles into such beautiful metaphor. There is one part where one of the characters, a "nasty" little boy becomes a dragon (because if his heart and greed). At first he is glad he becomes a dragon, then sad and lonely and more than anything he wants to be a boy again. He is told he has to remove his dragon clothes to be free. He tries to take them of and rips and chews at them and it is quite painful, but it is still of no use. The only way the be freed from the cures of the dragon is for Aslan (the Lion symbolizing Christ) to use his mighty and strong claws to pierce all the way through the many layers and rip them off. Then, the boy needs to bath. Oh, what a beautiful picture. We try so hard to deal with sin on our own, and to no avail. Christ is the only one who can rip it from us. And, we, often times, hold onto it so tightly that it is often a very painful experience. Then, after we are freed from the sin, we need to wash in the cleansing of The Word in order to stay cleansed.
