So many times we say that we can't serve God because we are not the kind of person we think is needed. We're not talented enough or smart enough or whatever. But if you are in covenant with Jesus Christ, He is responsible for covering your weakness, for being your strength. His Word tells us, "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong," Your shortcomings do not matter if you are whom God chooses! He will exchange your disabilities for His abilities. "By His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption . . . All things belong to you and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God." You and I have NO excuse, beloved, for not responding when God calls. Really then, our problem is not weakness but independence! And in covenant you die to independent living. Don't be deceived into thinking you do't have the strenght to be the witness Jesus wants you to be. The strength is there in covenant; you just have to learn to appropriate it. If you have Jesus Christ, you have the Holy Spirit - you have power. Let His strength be unleashed by laying aside your dependence upon your own inadequate capabilities and tapping into what is yours because you are in covenant with God. Just say to God, "God, I can't. You can. Let's go!" Go He will!
I thought this was pretty fitting for Independence Day! Perhaps this Independence Day, all of us out there who call ourselves "christian" can learn to be a little more dependent!
Thanks to The Lord for allowing us to live in a country where we can worship Him without prosecution! If, in fact, that is a blessing?
